As a society we are somewhat obsessed with searching the internet for information about any topic under the sun. Personally as soon as I am questioning something I turn to Google or Yahoo for the answer. Things such as song lyrics, mathematic conversions, weather, the relationship status of a celeb, etc. The options are endless. What are three things you regularly search on the internet? Read the following article from 2010. How many of the Top 10 have you searched over the past few years? Which of the Top 10 interests you the most and why? Which is the least likely for you to search? What is one thing your regularly search? How do you think our instant searching habbits are changing society? Do you think the constant and virtually instant access to information allowed by technology is a good or bad thing? Why?

The three things that I normally search are sports, movies, and tv shows. The ony one of the top 10 I have searched in the past year is Apple's iPhone. The one thing that I regularly search is sports news and scores. I think that instant access to searching is changing society in a good way. Now if people do not know something they can jump right on to google or yahoo and type in what they are looking for and usually they can find their answer in the first couple of search results.
ReplyDeletethe top three things i regularly search lately have been psychology answers for my intro to psych class, song lyrics, how to... things. out of that list i have searched none, the closest i can think of would be lady gaga's speeches. Kim kardashian is at the bottom of my list for me to search. We instantly have knowledge at our fingertips now unlike in the past it would actually take time to get an answer. I think its a good thing, we're constantly learning things all the time, however i kind of think its helping to boost how impatient we are as people if we don't have and answer within the first page of a Google search.
ReplyDeleteThree things I regularly search for on the internet are song lyrics, definitions, and local news that doesn't make our paper. I have probably only searched one of those top ten before. The one that interests me the most is the oil spill because it was a huge disaster and living around all this oil makes you want to know the effects it can have on its surroundings. The least likely searches for me would be the singers and actor/actresses because the ones on the top ten are ones that do not interest me. Song lyrics is the thing I search the most because I listen to a large amount of music and with the interent, if your questioning part of a song you can look it up.
ReplyDeleteI think the instant searching habits are good for keeping people up to date on current events. It also allows people to gather information that they need. I think the access to the information is both good and bad because of course there are certain things that can end up on the internet that people should not see. But having easy access to facts and current events can help people stay on top of news and what is happening in their country.
I don't google anything that was on that list, I mainly use google as a spellchecker so I don't have one specific term I frequently use. I think that instant search has impacted our society greatly because it allows us instant access to multitudes of information, I don't see how this could be a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteThe three things that I mainly search for on the internet would be food recipes, new phones, and definitions of words. Of that top ten, I think the only thing I searched was the I phone. The oil spill interests me because it made such a huge impact on how we treat oil and it showed the world the dangers of having an oil well in the water. I would probably never search Justin bieber... I really dislike his music. I mainly look for vegitarian dishes because I am going vegitarian. I think searching habits are becoming a norm. We are a needy society and being able to look up information that we need just kind of feeds are want to know random information. People can type anything into a search engine and a million different responses will show up so it really feeds a persons needs to have information right on the spot. I think it is a good and bad thing because it is awesome that we can have that information at our finger tips. We can know anything. The negitive side is that most of the sources might not be credible so the information that is being passed along could not be correct.
ReplyDeleteThe three things that I regularly search for on the internet are baseball teams, baseball bats, and clothes. The only thing that I have searched for on the top 10 was the Apple Iphone to find out when the next one is coming out. The only two things on that list that really interest me are the oil spill and the Iphone. The least likely for me to search would be American Idol because I never watch it. What is one thing your regularly search? One thing I regularly search is baseball teams and their stats. I think our instant search habbits are making information a lot more easily shared. If someone has the answer that a lot of people are looking for they can put it online and help the entire world out. As long as the information a person is searching for is for a good cause I think the access is great. The only thing is that there is a lot of things out there that people look for to hurt other people.
ReplyDeleteTop three things I search for on the internet are:
ReplyDelete#1-How to spell something
#2-Disney's 100 Years of Magic Dvd Set
#3-Anything being talked about among friends that is way over my head.
I would have searched one thing on that top ten list and that is iPhone. I bought one about a year ago and wanted to make sure I wanted the product for that price. And I would have to stick with the iPhone for most interesting on the list. JB would be the one I wouldn't search for. One thing I regularly search is spelling a word. Instant searching is very helpful, I think. It has really changed how we all get our information and sources. Sure, you may run into a source that isn't very trust worthy, but that is the risk in searching online. That will always be a risk. There are a lot of people out there that think it is funny to mess with unknowing people. I heard a story where a guy's hard drive on his computer was on the fritz and he went on an online chat room for computer help. The guy that answered his post lead the owner of the hard drive to completely ruin it. Just the risk you have to take I guess.
I usually use google as a spell checker and for music and movies. I don't think I have really searched any of those top ten besides Lady Gaga. The oil disaster is defiantly the most interesting thing on that list, I couldn't care less about the rest of them. Why is Kim Kardashian famous anyways? Researching is making things more convenient for everyone. If you have a question on anything, just google it. Much like with everything there are positives and negatives. People may use the ability to search for things for good while others for bad.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm on the internet, I regularly search for are sports related news, popular topics among friends or class, and music videos. I have only searched for a couple things on that list. The topic that most interests me is the 2010 World Cup because I was in Germany while it was going on and because of the influence of the culture I really got into soccer. I would be least likely to search for American Idol because I do not watch the show. I regularly search for sports news and player stats. I think our instant searching habits are changing society in a good way. Whenever you need an answer to a question, you can get it wherever you are. We can get those answers instantly as well. More and more people have quicker access to their answers, and I thinks that's a good change in society. I think this is a good thing because we can become more educated as we can answer the question we have right away and not risk having to wait and forgetting about it.
ReplyDeleteThe threethings that I mainly search on the Internet are every morning I check the weather, facebook, and I try to check my email once a day.
ReplyDeleteOut of the Top Ten the ones I have not searched before are Megan Fox, Kim Kardashinan adn the 2010 World Cup. What interests me the most out of all these would be the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster. The reason that this interests me the most is because it was something that had a major impact on society and it was something that everyone was talking about and stating their opinions. The topic that I am the least interested in would be the 2010 World Cup. I am not a huge fan of soccer so this would be my least favorite.
I think that our instant searching habbits are changing society mainly in a good way. It is now easy to find an answer to a question you need to know and if someone does not know how to do something such as a math problem or how to set up a paper you can almost always find an example or explanation of it on the Internet.
