Congress recently proposed the following bill however it is not mandatory that all companies comply with the guidelines however it does seem like a good idea. Read the following article and share your thoughts regarding all the proposed act. Which component do you think is the most important? Why?

I think that it was a good idea to make a bill of rights for consumers when it comes to online privacy. Now that we are in a technological era, I feel that there is a huge need to make sure consumers are getting the privacy that they deserve. I know a lot of people are afraid to buy something online, because they are afraid they are not giving their credit card information to a reliable source. I think that the bill of rights will give a good sense of mind to those who are afraid. The bill of rights covers all areas from security to transparency. I think the best component is the one about allowing people to easily understand it's privacy and security issues. I know several companies just have a long contract and an I accept button and I am hoping this bill of rights shortens it down, because so many people do not sit there and read the pages and think look between the lines.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good idea, though i see most of the responsibility of this falling on the companies shoulders and that could get a tad bit ugly. This bill makes alot of sense, companies no longer are going to be able to auction off our info to the highest bidder. I aggree most strongly with number one, personally i would enjoy knowing who had what information about me and who that information is being passed along too.
ReplyDeleteI think that the privacy act is a good idea because a person's information should not be completely public. I like the transparency component the most because people have the right to easily be able to understand why and what data is being taken and used for. Many people are not able to understand security and privacy practices of a company because it is an unclear description.
ReplyDeleteI think that this bill should be mandatory that all companies comply with it. People have all the right to know where there personal data and records or any information that they share is going, for what reason, and how long they plan on keeping and using that information. Privacy is a big issue and if a company is not willing to comply by these rules then how are we to be sure 100 percent that our information isnt getting out. If the bill was mandatory and someone found out that the information was improperly used then the person would have the backup knowing that the company broke the bill.
ReplyDeleteI just read the article and still didnt understand one word...
ReplyDeleteI think that this act would be good. Companies should not be able to give out your personal information for other purposee. They should specifically state what they will be doing with your information and how long they will keep it in their system. The component that I think is the most important is the privacy for the customers information. Most people do not like recieving one email after another for just one store.
ReplyDeleteAs long as there aren't any loopholes it seems as though the bill would be of the consumers benefit. Though you agree to certain privacy policies already with most sites, this just makes it very simple to understand and let's you know what your data is used for/how much of your info was used.
ReplyDeleteThis act seems like it could be a good idea, but could also cause a lot more work that is not needed. Most companies have a privacy act in their company already. The step that I thought would be most useful is step 4, Security: Consumers have a right to secure and responsible handling of personal data. Although this is pretty basic, if personal information is handled right, no other problems should exist.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a good idea. It is a big deal to people that they know that they have privacy when browsing a website. Companies are no longer going to be able to give out our information. The most important thing to be is #4, security. We as consumer have a right to secure and responsible handling with our information.
ReplyDeleteI think this bill is a good idea. It is there to protect the consumer's privacy and give the consumer more control over their personal data. The part I like is the transparency. It would be much more beneficial for the consumer to know what data is being collected, how it will be used, why they need the data, and when they won't need it anymore. I feel like this is a very important part of the bill.
ReplyDeleteThis bill seems very good for consumers. It would really be nice to know exactly who has the info on you and what is being done with it. For some sites and other things it can be really confusing why they are taking certain information.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is a good deal for the consumers. Not everybody wants their personal information being shared with everyone. I like the transparency portion, it makes it easier for the consumer to know whats happening with their information.
ReplyDeleteThe act seems like it can be good for a lot of consumers. Because if I had to give someone my personal information then yeah I would like to know what you need it for. This way I know exactly what's going on. This could be a good law for people in world today because almost everyone uses the internet to do some kind of shopping or billing, and this way you can make sure your information is secure.
ReplyDeleteI think this act is very consumer friendly. It could really help people out. I think the transparency section was a pretty good idea. Most people blindly sign up for things, just because there is a lot of confusing hoop you have to jump through, so to speak.
